As I was in the process of (legally) dowloading the three new Omar Rodriguez-Lopez albums that were released by Sargent House this week, my thoughts turned to the first time I heard ORL. I never quite got At The Drive-In, so my first real experience was with The Mars Volta and their 2005 masterpiece Frances the Mute. Listening to it again this morning, it stands up just as well as it did almost a decade ago when it first came out. It’s a fucking masterpiece–quite possibly the best prog-metal album to come out in the 2000s.
And I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a shout to @SeeminglyJaded, who reminded me of this album earlier this week. Thanks, dude.
